Cross Country Report 2013
The Cross Country season consisted of six races from the middle of May to the middle of June.
As many as seventeen schools competed at each race. In keeping with past years, we had a small and dedicated group of runners. They arrived at school in all weathers at 6:30 every Wednesday and Thursday morning.
Special mention must be made of Connor Brinkman (U11), Robin Fourie (U12) Keane de Beer (U12) and Robbie Clarke (Opens) for coming consistently in the top ten throughout the season. Amanda Skeen and Emily de Beer have been loyal and dedicated members of the Cross Country team since they were in Grade Three as under nines.
For the first time this year we have had Captains for the Cross Country team. Amanda Skeen (Girls’ Captain), assisted by Emily de Beer (Vice Captain) and Keane de Beer (Boys’ Captain), ably led the training in the mornings. They took their responsibilities to heart and motivated the team throughout the season.
The last race of the season at Zoo Lake, known as the prestige race, consisted of the top five runners per gender, per age group, from each school. The pace was extremely fast and our runner s did us proud, achieving excellent positions in a big and competitive field of runners.
We are proud of our school’s achievement and I would like to thank the parents for their support and encouragement of our Cross Country runners.
