Junior Preparatory Phase

At Kyalami Preparatory School, our dynamic young children begin their journey with excitement and curiosity. We nurture well-rounded, resilient individuals by fostering independence, responsibility, empathy, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence. Our academic programme develops essential perceptual and motor skills, laying strong foundations for literacy and numeracy. Alongside core subjects, pupils enjoy a broad curriculum including a choice of FAL (Afrikaans, isiZulu and Sesotho), Art, Music, Physical Education, and Computational Thinking. We support diverse learning needs with flexible methods and targeted academic support. Through play, collaboration, and practical experiences, our children grow confidently in a nurturing, inclusive environment that prepares them for a changing world.

Senior Prep

At Kyalami Preparatory’s Senior Phase, we offer a dynamic academic programme rooted in the CAPS Curriculum, enriched with creative and critical thinking. From Grade Four, pupils transition to a more formal learning environment with specialist teaching across subjects. Small class streams in English and Mathematics from Grade Five allow for personalised attention. Our broad curriculum includes languages (Afrikaans, isiZulu), Sciences, Life Skills, Arts, and Computational Thinking. Technology integration, including Chromebooks, coding, and robotics, enhances learning. We embrace the Thinking Schools approach, fostering inquiry, resilience, and a growth mindset. With strong pastoral care and committed staff, we support each child’s academic and personal journey.

Grade 7 Leadership & Development Programme

At KPS, every Grade 7 learner is allowed to grow through our inclusive and dynamic leadership programme. The year begins with an in-house leadership workshop, where all learners start as monitors as we look and apply the ICARE values of Kyalami Schools. By the end of Term 1, the first group of councillors will be selected. Those not yet chosen can showcase their growth at leadership camp before a second round of selections in Term 2. Senior councillors are appointed in two stages, looking at the community service, with the final honours assembly celebrating those who have excelled. There are teacher mentors who guide and support the Grade 7 students during their leadership walk. This programme nurtures responsibility, service, and personal development in every learner. There is a criterion that we follow, like manners, work ethic, service above self, duties, and prep pal initiative. As a Grade 7 Leadership Coordinator, I keep a record of growth throughout the year as evidence of true leadership from our students.

Drama

Welcome to the Drama Department at Kyalami Preparatory School, where creativity thrives and excitement unfolds. Our thespians gather weekly for rehearsals, role-playing, and a mix of fun and games. Each year, we present a Production, ensuring every student experiences the spotlight at least four times during their school journey.

Focused on enhancing voice projection, confidence, and poise, we prepare our students for the stage and beyond. An annual highlight is our Drama Eisteddfod, where students captivate audiences with poems and monologues, while being marked by adjudicators.

At KPS, we nurture the holistic development of every child, fostering participation and personal growth through the world of drama.

Art

Visual Art lessons take place in the vibrant Art Studio, where Grade 1–7 learners explore
creativity through diverse mediums and techniques. Junior Prep activities link to class themes,
while Senior Prep focuses on specialised skills like lino cutting, printmaking, and portraiture. An
extra-curricular Art Club is offered weekly for Grades 3–7 at no extra cost. Children can also
participate in the annual in-house Art Eisteddfod and showcase their work in two major
exhibitions each year.
